Community Focus

Women and Girls Empowerment Forum, Brixton, London SW9

I spoke at a community forum recently, in support of empowerment of females. The aim was to equip our girls with the tools to assist them to deal with living in a racist society.

My role was to discuss the law/behaviours affecting young people.

Here are 11 points:

  1. In an argument even if the other person is in the wrong, do not threaten to do them harm: box them, I will slap you, fly kick you…This is a Public Order offence called ‘threatening words and behaviour.’ You will be arrested.
  2. Do not spit on anyone, especially Not the Police, you will get arrested and could go to prison especially if you have previous convictions. (Covid changes)
  3. If there is a fight in public and you hang around to watch, and get caught up in it. This is an Affray which could lead to a prison sentence.
  4. If you are around people who smoke Cannabis/Weed/Ganja/Cheese…you smelling of it in public could lead to you being detained, search in public or at the Police Station where a WPC (women Police Officer) can search you.
  5. If a Police Officer stops you for ‘NOTHING’ although you are upset be CALM. Answer their question if it is a straight forward question.
  6. If you are asked about a crime that they think you have been involved in ask WHY they think so.
  7. NEVER invite the Police into your home without an adult present, unless you called them.
  8. NEVER go to a Police Station without an adult or Legal Representative.
  9. NEVER allow friends (boy/girl) to take intimate (breasts/private parts) photos/videos of you, as these can end up on Social Media.
  10. NEVER forward intimate (breasts/private parts) photos/videos of others as this is a Sexual Offence which could be recorded on any enhanced DBS checks (job checks) in the future.
  11. Ask yourself is your current behaviour in school/college/public something that would make me feel proud 5/10 years from now.

We never know who we may become in the future and some people will always be looking for ‘dirt’ to have on a successful woman. Don’t let today’s behaviour be tomorrow’s SCANDAL.

Take Care,

Akilah
